23rd GI VR/AR Workshop 2026 - Hochschule RheinMain
The GI VR/AR workshop is one of the largest scientific events in the German-speaking world on Virtual Reality (VR) / Augmented Reality (AR) / Mixed Reality (MR) / Extended Reality (XR). It is organized by the Special Interest Group on VR/AR of the GI (German Informatics Society). The workshop provides a forum for researchers, practitioners, artists, and industry partners to present and discuss current work in VR/AR and related areas such as 3D User Interfaces. In 2026, the workshop will take place for the 23rd time at Hochschule RheinMain in Wiesbaden on 23.09.2026 and 24.09.2026.
Topics
We welcome contributions in any area of Virtual and Augmented Reality. This includes but is not limited to:
- 3D input devices and interaction techniques
- Avatars and agents
- Display technologies and tracking
- (Real-time) rendering
- Education and edu-/infotainment
- Entertainment and experiences
- Society and socio-technical aspects
- Human factors
- Industrial application scenarios
- Innovative and artistic applications
- Modelling and simulation
- Multimodal interaction
- System architectures and intelligent environments
- Distributed and cooperative VR/AR environments
- VR/AR on the Web
- VR/AR and games
- VR/AR and art
We explicitly encourage graduates (Bachelor’s and Master’s) to submit work based on their theses in the field of VR/AR.
Submission Categories
1. Scientific Papers
Scientific papers are published in GI LNI - the German Computer Society’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science. They are invited in the following categories (page limits including references):
- Long papers: 9-12 pages (single column, LNI)
- Short papers: 6-8 pages (single column, LNI)
Papers should preferably be written in English (or alternatively in German). Submissions must be anonymous and follow a double-blind review process.
Review and publication:
- Papers must be uploaded in anonymous form via the EasyChair submission system

2. Posters
Presenting a poster at the GI VR/AR Workshop is a great opportunity to receive feedback on ongoing or yet unpublished work. Poster sessions are an integral part of the workshop and will include interactive discussions; additionally, a fast-forward track will allow authors to briefly present their work to all attendees. Posters will not be published in the GI DL and LNI.
- Extended abstract: max. 2 pages (including references), non-anonymous
- Template: VGTC conference template
- Submission: poster-vrar-dcsm@hs-rm.de
3. Doctoral Consortium
We invite early-stage PhD students (typically in their first year) to participate in a doctoral consortium. The consortium offers a supportive environment for discussing research ideas, receiving feedback, and building a professional network. Contributions to the doctoral consortium will not be published in the GI DL and LNI.
- Extended abstract: non-anonymous, max. 2 pages (including references) outlining your research questions, background, proposed methods, and current challenges
- Template: VGTC conference template
- Submission: dc-vrar-dcsm@hs-rm.de
